Where to Stay:

Nights 1-5: Concrete, WA

Although you could also stay in Winthrop on the opposite side of the park, I believe Concrete is a better option for this itinerary, especially regarding travel time on day 6.

Personal Recommendation: Concrete/Grandy Creek KOA – This was our first experience at KOA. The sites were huge, and we absolutely loved our stay here!

Nights 6-9: Ashford, WA

We stayed in this area for our entire time at Mt. Rainier, but you might consider moving to Enumclaw on Day 8 or Carbonado on Day 9. Since we had our camper and loved our site, we chose to drive a little extra those days and remain at the same campsite.

Personal Recommendation: Mounthaven Resort– probably the dreamiest place we’ve ever stayed. The site was massive, and the surrounding landscape was incredible. The location is also just minutes from the park entrance.

Nights 10-14: Port Angeles, WA

You could move to Forks for the second half of your time in Olympic National Park, but we opted to stay at the same campsite instead of relocating.

Personal Recommendation: Elwha RV Park -We loved this campground. The location was great, lots of amenities, and our site was huge and backed up to the woods. My only advice- pick a spot near the woods. The main spots in the middle are very tight, and I don’t think we would have loved our experience as much if we had been in one of those spots instead.

Nights 15-16: Silverton, OR

Personal Recommendation: Silver Spur RV Park – This is a very nice RV park, with lots of amenities and a great location.

Nights 17-19: Diamond Lake, OR

Personal Recommendation: Diamond Lake RV Park– the spots at this campground were very uneven, but the surrounding landscape was incredible, and the location to Diamond Lake and Crater Lake can not be beat!

Nights 20-23: Klamath, CA

Personal Recommendation: Kamp Klamath RV Park – This campground is gorgeous. 10/10 stay. I will stay here every time we visit the Redwoods. Perfect location, and beautiful sites.

Nights 24-26: Shingletown, CA

Personal Recommendation: Mt. Lassen/Shingletown KOA – This campground was nice and well-maintained, but the sites were small and felt overcrowded. The location to the park, however, was fantastic.

Nights 28-29: Ely, NV

Personal Recommendation: Valley View RV Park – Beautifully maintained property and large sites.

Know Before You Go:

  1. If you click on any park name throughout the itinerary, you will be taken to a park-specific post with more information on lodging, dining, cell service, and trail tips for that specific park.
  2. I highly recommend an America the Beautiful Pass for this itinerary.  It covers the entrance fees for over 2,000 federal recreation sites, including all National Parks.  If you have a 4th grader in your crew, check out Every Kid Outdoors for a free National Park Pass instead!
  3. There are no break days in this itinerary. Even on drive days, we like to do some hiking. If you want to take this trip a little more slowly, consider resting on drive days and adding extra days to this itinerary to see those sightson a different day.
  4. If you hike early or late in the season at any of the Washington or Oregon parks, you’ll likely be trekking through snow or ice. Spikes are necessary, and hiking poles would be helpful.
  5. If there is snow on the trails, having an AllTrails map downloaded on your phone is extremely helpful in determining the direction of the trail.  (Want to check out AllTrails+?  Use this link for a discount- AllTrails+.)
  6. Check the tide chart before hiking any beaches on this itinerary to avoid getting stranded when the tide comes in.
  7. There is plenty of unique wildlife throughout these parks. Please review wildlife safety before heading out.
